Lower-Sugar Cherry Vanilla Green Smoothie


Summer is the perfect time to incorporate smoothies into your diet. The cold, raw fruits and veggies literally cool you down, better regulating your body’s temperature and makes that heat a bit more bearable. Better yet, produce is at its peak, with mother nature providing some of the sweetest fruits and freshest vegetables.

I love this lower-sugar green smoothie, which uses cherries at the height of their season. Frozen zucchini helps to decrease the amount of fructose used. It also sneaks in spirulina, a blue-green algae rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and is a good source

Lower-Sugar Cherry Vanilla Green Smoothie:
  • Two handfuls spinach
  • 1/3 cup frozen cherries
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen zucchini (trust us on this one!)
  • 1 tsp spirulina
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon nut butter (i.e. almond or cashew)
  • 1 scoop protein powder of choice (optional)
  • coconut water or dairy-free milk until desired consistency is reached
Place everything in a high-speed blender and process until smooth. Enjoy!
